Recap

Breathing, Water & Sleep

Has anything stuck from the past 3 posts? Have you made any micro-changes to your daily habits?

As you know, in the past 3 posts I’ve been sharing the how and why of my 7 essentials for sustainable healthy living. I’ve covered 3 of them: breathing, hydration, and sleep. Before I go on, I figure it’s a good time to take a breather, and take stock of what’s been covered so far.

Are you feeling overwhelmed with all that I recommend? You know how excited I get about these topics. I’m so passionate about healthy living and thriving that sometimes I forget that excitement can very quickly outpace integration!

Then I have to remind myself of this eternally important principle:

“Optimal” health is a goal, not an ongoing reality.

Why is “optimal” in quotations? Well, because perfect balance (which is what optimal health is) doesn’t really exist.

Why not? Because health is not a “still” state!

We are in a constant process of change, every second of our life. What your health is today is not the same as tomorrow. Change and fluctuations are normal. Always-interfering external forces that are out of your control are normal.

You can’t control the deep stress caused by a sick family member, or a bullying boss any more than you can control the pollution in the air you breathe or the water you drink. I absolutely relate to succumbing to external forces that knock me off track! ????????‍♀️

What this means is that you need to regularly take stock of how you’re doing in your health goals and decide which small steps but definite steps would be helpful in that moment. Integrate what seems the most important and easiest to put into place for you. You can come back to the others later.

Remind yourself to drop the need to control and accept that change and fluctuations are in fact your partner, albeit sometimes a terribly uncooperative one! By all means, let this remind you that guilt has no place in this health journey!

Focus instead on what you can influence, on what you can put into place to buffer those interfering external forces. That’s what my weekly newsletters and my social media posts are all about: giving you tips, ideas and guidance that can be the positive to the negative of those uncontrollable external forces.

So, to recap the options I’ve given you so far for small steps you can take for healthy living, I’ve created this PDF:
